Charles Kelley is a dad!
The Lady Antebellum singer and his wife, Cassie, welcomed their first child on Thursday, February. 11, the couple announced via a post on her website, Womanista.
“We can’t stop staring at him and he hasn’t stopped chitchatting with us since he arrived,”
the proud parents shared, along with a picture of their 7 lb. 9 oz. newborn baby, Ward Charles Kelley– born at 9:20 am.
“He’s got momma’s nose and daddy’s eyes and vocal chords and a full head of blond hair.”
“We feel like our life just began today and are so grateful for a healthy baby boy in our arms,”
the couple remarked.
Baby Kelley’s delivery was expected on February 17, and Charles had previously expressed his anxiety about attending the 2016 Grammy Awards on February 15 in Los Angeles. His debut solo single “The Driver” was nominated in the Best Country Duo/Group Performance category.
Kelley revealed his wife was urging him to go, even though that’d be cutting it close to the due date. The Driver album was released on Friday, February 5.
“Thanks for all the love everyone. Cassie and I couldn’t be more fired up to have our first baby. just hope he or she gets my wife’s looks ha,”
Charles tweeted before his baby was born.
Charles and Cassie have been married since 2009, and announced they were expecting in August of last year.
This big new chapter in the couple’s life comes after Charles announced last year that Lady Antebellum would be stepping out of the spotlight for a while.
“As a band, we’ve talked about wanting to get off the hamster wheel for a little bit and let the fans miss us for a second,”
he told Rolling Stone Country.
“We want to spend some time to write a record like we did for our first record. But it’s always been go, go, go, so we’ll try to get re-inspired a little bit.”
